Creative Acts is Hiring! Director of Communications
Creative Acts is hiring!
Director of Communications
Creative Acts is an organization that seeks to transform urgent social justice issues
through the revolutionary power of the Arts;
to heal trauma, build community, raise power,
and center the voices of those who are or have been incarcerated.
Creative Acts was founded in 2018. We are a black-led and majority women-identifying organization. Sabra Williams, in partnership with Cheryl Bonacci of The Anti-Recidivism Coalition, launched Creative Acts because they saw a gap between the work of social justice organizations (dealing with very practical quotidian issues) and arts organizations that enable people who are incarcerated to have access to art-making and training as potential artists. Based on many years of working behind bars, they knew there was a third way to engage participants in artistic practice to develop tools to manage their emotional lives, be better prepared to return from lengthy prison sentences, and transform trauma. Our work isn’t to teach people how to become actors, musicians, or writers, per se, but uses creative skills as a toolbox for self-reflection, community building, emotional regulation and dismantling the barriers of gangs and race.
We are a “flat organization” where we all get paid the same hourly rate and all have decision-making power. It’s a dynamic, exciting approach that is making waves in the non-profit community.
